Tech Field Day Extra at VMworld US 2014

August 24, 2014 By Stephen 1 Comment

As most of my readers know, I also run the Tech Field Day event series, bringing independent voices in IT together with interesting companies in our space. This year, we’re running a full-blown Tech Field Day event at VMworld, the largest we’ve ever put together. Although there’s no live audience for Tech Field Day apart from the delegate panel, I invite you to watch online!

Most Tech Field Day events bring a group of delegates together for three days but Tech Field Day Extra at VMworld is a little different: Each afternoon features a unique panel of seven delegates and three presenting companies. As is usual, there will be technical presentations and discussions, but Tech Field Day Extra sessions last one hour, half the normal length. Other than that, this is pretty much the same as the Tech Field Day you’ve come to know and love!

Since VMworld attracts a broad range of companies and attendees from across the various IT disciplines, we decided to brand this as a full Tech Field Day rather than our focused Virtualization Field Day event. This is reflected in our presenting companies, too, which include storage, networking, backup, and virtualization management technologies.

We start Monday with DataGravity, Asigra, and SolarWinds. We’re excited to have hot-out-of-stealth DataGravity kick things off for us; this will be their first public broadcast presentation! SolarWinds is a perennial favorite, returning to share their perspective on performance in the world of hybrid IT. Asigra really wowed the audience showcasing a new way to approach backup (recovery-based pricing!) and they’re back with cloud backup.

Tuesday starts with an update on the collaboration between the FlashSoft team at SanDisk and VMware. Then we have Tech Field Day favorite Zerto presenting a vision of a cloud fabric for IT. Finally it’s Riverbed’s SteelFusion, a converged infrastructure solution for remote sites. It’s great to have these three companies return to Tech Field Day for an update on their work!

We wrap up Wednesday afternoon. EMC returns to Tech Field Day with an update on XtremIO, which beget covered a few months back at Storage Field Day and at their recent London event. Then it’s Tech Field Day-launched Infinio, with an update and sneak peek at new functionality. We wrap the event with Nuage Networks, a very hot startup in the SDN space who’ve given legendary Networking Field Day presentations over the last year.

Each afternoon sees a different delegate panel, with fifteen chosen in all. We’re thrilled to be able to help bring wonderful people like these to San Francisco, and are very appreciative for all the support we’ve received from the VMworld organizers! Tech Field Day is a collaboration between tech companies, independent writers and speakers, and event and PR folks, and what a great group that is!

If you’d like to join us virtually, just head over to TechFieldDay.com from 1 to 5 Pacific time (GMT -7 right now) Monday through Friday, August 25-27. And as usual we’ll be posting recordings of these sessions to the Tech Field Day web site, as well as YouTube and Vimeo. Join the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #TFDX and we’ll relay your comments and questions right into the room!
