Scale Computing HC3 – Converged Infrastructure For Everybody!

August 28, 2012 By Stephen 4 Comments

"Convergence" is a hot topic today but, like so many buzzwords, the term takes on many different meanings. But let's consider converged infrastructure for a moment - systems that seamlessly combine server and storage. A variety of offerings can be called "converged", from "stacks" of equipment curated by major vendors and resellers to integrated boxes with everything inside. … [Read more...] about Scale Computing HC3 – Converged Infrastructure For Everybody!

What Is a Blade Server?

February 18, 2012 By Stephen 13 Comments

I've been watching enterprise IT for over 20 years now, and I've seen some radical changes. In the server space, one of the biggest shifts was the form factor of the servers: From tower to rack-mount to blades. But what makes a blade server anyway? The Mini DisplayPort connector can turn a 27" iMac into an expensive monitor

It's amazing that, after 19 months without an update, Apple's new Mini looks exactly the same as the old Mini. But what's under the hood matters, and Apple delivered a mixed bag there. The new Mini is an excellent home server, which is how mine will be used, but some poor … [Read more...] about New Mac Mini Is A Diamond In The Rough

How to Keep an IOGear KVM from Dimming Your Mac’s Screen

June 19, 2008 By Stephen 4 Comments

Just a quick tip tonight about something that's been nagging me.  I love my IOGear MiniView Micro GCS632U KVM, but I've had a weird problem since hooking it up to my new MacBook Pro.  See, the IOGear uses a double press on the Scroll Lock key to switch views.  But every time I type this while connected to the Mac, the screen dims two notches.  Pretty quick, it's completely … [Read more...] about How to Keep an IOGear KVM from Dimming Your Mac’s Screen
