Qumulo: An Enterprise Storage Startup Focused on Scale, Simplicity, and Efficiency
Enterprise storage is perhaps the most innovative area of IT these days, with exciting startups springing up right and left. Today, that scene welcomes Qumulo, who are building a new storage platform focused on scalability, efficiency, and simplicity. Qumulo catches my eye for two reasons: The team is heavy with Isilon experience, and CTO Aaron Passey really impressed me with his work at Clustrix.
Apple’s Lightning to Micro USB Adapter is Tiny But Useful
I’m pleased to have a couple of Apple Lightning to Micro USB connectors in my bag. They’re handy when a Lightning cable isn’t available and are fairly cheap at £15. It’s disappointing that these adapters are not more widely available, but third-party Lightning cables ought to begin appearing soon to fill the void.
802.11ac Wi-Fi Hotness from Wireless Field Day 3
Although “7 Gigabit performance” makes for great headlines, the real advance of 802.11ac will be better throughput for more clients. As we move to 5 GHz, 802.11ac will support more simultaneous client connections with MIMO stability. Although performance will improve to 400+ Mbps, users will likely never see multi-gigabit throughput.
Is there no such thing as a cheap, prepaid data SIM in the USA?
It’s hard to believe that a true prepaid mobile data SIM doesn’t exist in the USA, but it’s true. A GoPhone, H2O, or Net10 SIM isn’t a bad idea for your smartphone, but it’s not exactly cheap. The best option for those needing just mobile data is a local Virgin Mobile hotspot or a brand new Android phone or iPad!
