The Seagate Free Agent GoFlex Docks were an excellent product, allowing interchange of hard disk drives and connectivity protocols. They made USB 3, FireWire, and even NAS docks for these hard disk drives. But the connector is standard SATA and could be used with any drive. So I created a 3D printable adapter and released it on Thingiverse!
Use this adapter to connect any 2.5″ laptop hard disk drive to a Seagate GoFlex dock. It supports the weight of the drive and reduces stress on the connectors. The adapter supports drives up to 15 mm in height (thickness) so just about any drive should work. And it works in both the first-generation and second-generation GoFlex docks.
I also created a “wedge” that adds extra support for drives under 15 mm. Just insert the drive, then snap in the wedge. Each “step” of the wedge matches one of the various drive heights: 12.5 mm, 9.5 mm, 7 mm, and 5 mm. And the wedge snaps into the adapter for storage!

Although this was inspired by Symonty’s “Adapter to use any SATA drive in Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex“, I ended up designing this completely from scratch. I did list this as a remix for that adapter as a way of saying thanks for the inspiration!
If you’re looking for a similar adapter for larger, heavier 3.5″ hard disk drives, I recommend printing out SuzyHendrix’ “3.5″ bare drive adapter for Seagate GoFlex Desk“
It’s really too bad Seagate cancelled the GoFlex line. I imagine the extra parts added a few dollars to the total cost of the drives at retail and were not enough of a draw to get average consumers to be brand-loyal. But storage nerds like me prize our GoFlex docks even after the drives have passed on!
