Feed Your Drobo: 1 TB WD Green SATA Drive, $55.49

August 2, 2010 By Stephen Leave a Comment

It seems like my Drobo is always hungry. I’ve got all four slots stuffed with 1.5 TB drives right now, and the Western Digital Caviar Green is one of my favorites. It’s quiet and draws just a little power, yet is fairly quick thanks to 64 MB of cache.

If you’ve got data to store, I just spotted this deal at Amazon.com:

[exp]Western Digital Caviar Blue SATA2 16MB Cache Bulk/OEM Hard Drive, $55.49 shipped This deal expires August 3, 2010.[/exp]

This is the new “Advanced Format” (WD10EARS) model with 4K sectors. It’s compatible with the Drobo (as long as your firmware is up to date) as well as most modern operating systems, including Windows Vista and 7 and Tiger-and-better Mac OS X.

Note: Some of these links include affiliate codes that help pay for this blog. For example, buying an Amazon Kindle with this link sends a few bucks my way! But I don't write this blog to make money, and am happy to link to sites and stores that don't pay anything. I like Amazon and buy tons from them, but you're free to buy whatever and wherever you want.

For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
