I bought a 3rd SATA drive, and have nowhere to put it in my PowerMac G5. I forgot there was only room for 2 inside! I do audio recording: Lots of Digital Performer, plus a bit of Pro Tools. I recently bought a new 1 TB Hitachi drive and don’t know how to house it.
In Praise of Performance Comparisons
I’ve long been critical of poorly-executed performance comparisons and the “fastest is always best” mentality behind them. But, although it sounds inconsistent, I still love reading the performance “comparos” in Car & Driver, and I am committed to the belief that the enterprise IT world needs lab tests and performance comparisons.
Could EMC World Attendees Have Missed The Private Cloud Message?
“Private cloud” wasn’t just the message of EMC World 2010, it was the slogan. The phrase was everywhere, from the airport to the taxis to the cycle rickshaws to the convention center walls. But end users seemed as confused as ever when talking to me, and EMC’s own show video proves the point: EMC’s customers are using virtualization and public cloud talking points, not the private cloud concepts EMC is pitching!
Quick Tip: iPhone/iPad Auto-Correction “im/IM/I’m”
Every time I typed “im” the iPhone would auto-correct it to “IM”, rather than “I’m” which is what I meant. I finally figured out that the problem was in my contacts. No, not my corrective lenses; the issue was with my address book, of all things.
Relax: The Corporate World Can’t Co-Opt Social Media
One of the recurring themes from this week’s EMC World conference was the extent to which corporations (including EMC) are incorporating elements of social media. Through it all, everyone noted the impact of social media on the modern corporate world. But this begs a question: Are corporations co-opting social media and ruining the authenticity of it?
