It took over five months, but Sony finally delivered my NEX-7 kit on March 8 (my birthday, natch!). After using the camera for a few weeks, I can say it’s exactly what I hoped it would be: A worthy upgrade over the NEX-5, and perhaps the best enthusiast camera on the market. If the standard microcomputer is the “Wintel” box (Microsoft’s Windows, Intel’s CPUs, and all that implies) then the standard network services protocol is SMB. 3.1 megapixels is a whole lot of display. If the new iPad screen packs in enough pixels to display 65 pages of Hamlet at once, imagine what else it can show! The next time someone says “what’s so great about that screen” all I have to do is read them a scene or two from my lock screen.
