This morning, Apple introduced the new iMac, with a build-to-order storage configuration called “Fusion Drive”. But what is Fusion Drive? Although it could be an off-the-shelf hybrid drive, I believe it is a software driver in Mac OS X.
Apple’s Lightning to Micro USB Adapter is Tiny But Useful
I’m pleased to have a couple of Apple Lightning to Micro USB connectors in my bag. They’re handy when a Lightning cable isn’t available and are fairly cheap at £15. It’s disappointing that these adapters are not more widely available, but third-party Lightning cables ought to begin appearing soon to fill the void.
802.11ac Wi-Fi Hotness from Wireless Field Day 3
Although “7 Gigabit performance” makes for great headlines, the real advance of 802.11ac will be better throughput for more clients. As we move to 5 GHz, 802.11ac will support more simultaneous client connections with MIMO stability. Although performance will improve to 400+ Mbps, users will likely never see multi-gigabit throughput.
My HP Photosmart Printer Just Stopped Printing…
With a printhead failure in less than two years of ownership, I can no longer recommend purchasing HP printers. But I’m not going to start looking for another brand. Instead, I will replace the printhead and reduce my printing even further in hopes that I won’t need to replace this one!

Many of you have probably heard the name of Alan Turing, but most of those probably don’t appreciate the extent of his contributions. To say that he invented the modern world is an overstatement, but he did dream up the computers we see around us today, and helped win World War II in the process. But the story of Alan Turing is as much about exclusion and defeat as it is of genius.
