Geeksplosion! iPhone to Manage VMware!

I sure hope the iPhone is ready for the enterprise! VMware CTO, Stephen Herrod, just announced at VMworld that a new version of VMware Infrastructure Client was being developed for the iPhone and “other mobile devices”. This software allows an administrator to manage virtual machines hosted on VirtualCenter servers.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been using apps like pTerm (SSH), Remote Desktop (RDP), and Mocha (VNC) to manage my network devices. Throw in VI Client and you have a formidable mobile management device!

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one thinking of keen uses for the accelerometer in system management…

Replacing Google Reader With Feedbin and Reeder

I am an avid Google Reader user, so I’m thoroughly annoyed by Google’s decision to kill it as of July 1. But there’s no stopping the tide, so I’ve made the move to Feedbin as a Reader replacement as of today. It’s a slick, snappy web application with a committed developer and, critically, support for Reeder, my favorite offline RSS reading application. Let’s hope this works!

FCoE vs. iSCSI – Making the Choice

Sony QX100 Lens Camera: Ruined by a Flaky iOS App

I was thrilled by the possibilities of adding a professional-quality camera sensor and lens to my iPhone, so I immediately pre-ordered Sony’s DSC-QX100 “lens camera”. It held so much promise, not just as a real innovation but also as a major productivity tool. That’s why I’m angry to write this, a scathing review of the horrid software that ruins the QX10 and QX100 experience. Do not buy this device.
