What’s All This About Cloud Storage? Ask Me At Storage Decisions

Posted by Stephen in Enterprise storage, Personal, Virtual Storage on 15. Sep, 2009 | View Comments

Next week I will be returning to Storage Decisions after missing the last few in 2009. Although I’ve presented at dozens of TechTarget’s storage shows, this will be the first time I will be representing a vendor (Nirvanix) with a show floor booth.
Although my dislike for certain aspects of trade shows (especially booth babes and [...]

Times are changing in the tech media world, so a core group of independent enterprise IT bloggers have come together to combine our writing into a mega blog or web magazine focused on enterprise IT infrastructure topics like virtualization, networking, and storage: Gestalt IT. The idea is that the best content from the best enterprise IT folks is brought together in one place.

Although the details have not been released, TechTarget updated its web site today with a list of events by region for 2009. Some highlights from the calendar:

The Storage Decisions conferences [...]

All things must pass, but it is with a heavy heart that I note that TechTarget’s excellent Storage magazine has shipped its last issue. No official word has been posted by the company, but it is now widely reported. All print publications are feeling squeezed by a move to online readership which robs print of advertising revenue with its [...]

Toronto Seminar: Do Canadians Virtualize?

Posted by Stephen in Enterprise storage, Personal, Virtual Storage on 08. Dec, 2008 | View Comments

I’m off to beautiful Toronto, Ontario, Canada for tomorrow’s storage virtualization seminar. It will be very interesting to learn if there are differences between the two countries in terms of technologies employed or (more likely) business objectives served by server and storage virtualization technology. As I noted after my date with Charlotte, American companies are increasingly [...]

Changes in Technology Drive Changes in IT Organizations and Roles

Lots of my IT infrastructure management clients are talking about how the advent of Ethernet/IP and virtualization is changing the roles of storage, server, and network administrators. The evolution of the storage role in particular in enterprise IT organizations has been a topic of particular interest to me for a while: I definitely remember thinking about [...]

Storage Virtualization Charlotte: Thoughts and Reactions

I’ve just finished my day in Charlotte on my Storage Virtualization Seminar tour for TechTarget. We had another great crowd – everyone seemed interested even if some were shy about speaking up. I was especially pleased to see the optimism about the city’s post-Wachovia future.
Comments at the event focused on management, with my concerns about [...]
