This is great stuff. You hit Sun spot on! Deadly accurate aim with Nexsan as well. Would love to see a twist on this and have you compare a dozen or so software firms to their respective MLB teams (i.e. Oracle is Yankees because they both outspend and outperform however the public opinion of the company is poor because the owner is arrogant and opinionated.)

[...] It make sense that SMB shops used to run only Windows and CLARiiONs, so the “Value Edition” of Recoverpoint supports that particular combination. But SMB shops nowadays are venturing out to FOSS solutions such as LAMP based Alfresco to save some $. But if that translates to having to fork over a lot more money for the Recoverpoint “Deluxe Version”, it’d probably make SMBs look into some other storage vendors with more FOSS friendly price quotes. After all, not everyone need a Mercedes C class when a Toyota works just fine [...]

Ford owns much less of Mazda than this now - 13.4%. But this article is a funny on storage vendors, and was not intended to provide factual information of any sort!

Stephen - was this post a Duplessie meme follow? http://bit.ly/IB15w Borrowing from the 3PAR/BMW analogy, one could say we make the Ultimate Storage Machine. But you forgot about the Mini, which then would be matched up with our F Class arrays. Less expensive and wonderful to drive. Is somebody really going to purchase BMW? I would be shocked!

Mazda is owned by Ford with a 37% controlling share. Technology and development is shared across Ford, Mazda, and Volvo liberally. This post is not really comparing storage vendors to automakers, but to auto brands. This should be made more clear.

Nice way of positioning storage firms, however on the "Texas Memory Systems is Lotus...but how long can a tiny niche vendor like this last?" post, the answer is easy enough because the company is over 30 YEARS old. I expect they supply more SSD than the big guys. SSD is a niche to IBM, EMC, HDS, et al., not Texas Memory Systems.

April 02, 2008 Solid State Storage Firm, Texas Memory Systems, Celebrates its 30th Year
http://www.ramsan.com/pressrelease/2008-04-02.htm

I would only correct you on Texas Memory Systems being a Lotus. In general while Lotus has good H.P. to weight which gives it its performance, Lotus on the "super car" scale is cheap. TMS is pretty much the most expensive storage on the market.
