I live in Sydney, Australia and have read your comments on macmall etc, so after shipping conversion rates etc Is the 25% savings really a 25% savings? I am absolutely tired of the constant headaches of vista , but I still need windows as part of the package and heard that windows 7 is a whole lot better. Yet having owned an HP pavillion and gone through two motherboards as the video cards were embedded Its now time to switch to apple as I hope to get more life out of my computer than just two to three years.

How can MacMall, MacConnection and Amazon sell Apples iMacs for so much less? Are these new and not refurbished systems? Is there anything different or inferior about these systems and those sold on Apple.com?

It's not much, but this Squidoo lens (http://www.squidoo.com/apple-store-discount-cou...) outlines a pretty easy way to get a 1.8% cashback rebate from purchases at the online Apple Store.

(You can also get a 2.7% rebate from MacMall and MacConnection)

Hi Stephen,

Hope all is well. I've been following your "Mac-tivities" with great interest, as I was in the market for a new home machine. I almost pulled the trigger on a Mac, but while it certainly has appeal, ultimately I opted for another Windows box. I couldn't come to grips with the almost 100% price delta between a similarly configured Mac and PC (admittedly the gap is partially due to the fact that I'm comfortable buying essentially a no-name PC for a home system).

But, I did want to let you know that I've enjoyed your posts and learned a lot about the subtleties of Macs (USB differences -- who knew?)

Cheers,

Jim
